If I was in a famished season of lack and someone told me not to worry, because God will provide all my needs, just like he feeds the fowl of the earth, I would be quick to give a double take AND side eye. Which means, if I am presently hungry, presently lacking money and resources, and someone is explaining that God will provide, the first question is WHEN? The problem is, where the bible often speaks of provision and fulfiling needs, it is often spiritual. WHY? Because when you are spiritually whole, you have very few needs. And this does not mean you are wealthy. It's all about perception and state of mind. Often we seek carnal pleasures, physical desires, or the acquiring of things, to fill a void. If you are in pain, your pain may not disappear, but God can give you peace so that it may not destroy you or distract you from your Kingdom goals. (See Paul's thorn in 2 Cor. 12:7-9) Also, take a look at Jesus. He was the most spiritually whole person to walk the earth. He was God in flesh. What did he have but the clothes on his back and the shoes on his feet. No home, wife, kids, or other carnal possessions were mentioned. Jesus had very little and needed very little. (Luke 9:57-58) The things we seek with the most vigor, should be spiritual. God beseeches us to yearn for spiritual gifts. He promises that in these things, we will not LACK if we put his promises in our hearts, trust Him, follow his word and put Him first in all that we do.
